Women in Agribusiness sets Demeter, scholarship deadlines
Women in Agribusiness is pushing toward two mid-summer deadlines that could shape who gets recognized and who gets into the pipeline next. The group said nominations for its 2026 Demeter Award of Excellence are due June 22, while applications for its 2026 student scholarship program close July 12. This year, WIA is also adding a fourth Demeter Award category reserved for female farmers, tied to the United Nations’ designation of 2026 as the International Year of the Woman Farmer. The honorees and scholarship recipients will be connected to WIA’s annual summit, scheduled for September 22-24 in New Orleans. (womeninag.com)
Why it matters: For veterinary professionals working in animal agriculture, pet food, feed, and broader agribusiness, the announcement is a reminder that talent development and public recognition are increasingly being built around women’s leadership across the food and animal health value chain. WIA says its scholarship program has helped more than 450 students attend the summit, with more than $1.4 million in sponsorship support over time, suggesting these programs are functioning as both recognition tools and recruiting channels for the next generation of ag professionals. The new farmer-specific award also reflects a wider industry push in 2026 to make women’s on-farm contributions more visible, including support from the American Farm Bureau Federation. What to watch: Watch for the June 22 and July 12 deadlines to be followed by recipient announcements ahead of the September 22-24 Women in Agribusiness Summit in New Orleans. (womeninag.com)
