RCVS opens nominations for 2016 council elections
The Royal College of Veterinary Surgeons invited nominations for its 2016 RCVS Council and Veterinary Nurses Council elections, opening six elected seats on RCVS Council and two on VN Council. Successful candidates were set to begin four-year terms in July 2016, with the elections forming part of the college’s annual governance cycle. At the time, RCVS Council was still operating under its pre-2018 structure, with elected members making up a much larger share of the governing body than they do today. (rcvs.org.uk)
Why it matters: For veterinary professionals, these elections shaped who would help steer regulation, education standards, registration, and wider professional policy at a time when the RCVS was also advancing major profession-wide work such as Vet Futures and VN Futures. The 2016 intake ultimately brought in new and returning council members, underlining how elections can directly influence the regulator’s direction on standards, training, and representation for both vets and veterinary nurses. What to watch: The next step was the candidate period, followed by voting and confirmation of successful candidates at the RCVS Annual General Meeting in July 2016. (rcvs.org.uk)
