Purdue honors five veterinary alumni in new signature event

Purdue University’s College of Veterinary Medicine has named five graduates as its 2026 Distinguished Alumni Award recipients, recognizing careers that span equine endocrinology, rural mixed-animal practice, feline and emergency care, animal health industry leadership, and veterinary diagnostics. The honorees are Nicholas Frank, DVM, PhD; Rob Jackman, DVM; Allison Kowlowitz, DVM; Jennifer Miller, DVM; and Duane Murphy, DVM, PhD. They were recognized at Purdue’s inaugural Dean’s Dinner of Distinction on April 17, 2026, a new signature alumni event launched by the college, and also joined a panel discussion with students, faculty, and staff. Why it matters: For veterinary professionals, the list is notable less as a ceremonial roundup than as a snapshot of where influence in the profession is showing up now: academic leadership, rural practice continuity, feline-focused and emergency medicine, industry-based medical strategy, and diagnostic laboratory work. Purdue’s award criteria explicitly recognize impact across practice, teaching, research, professional service, and community service, which mirrors the increasingly broad set of career paths shaping care delivery, workforce development, and animal health policy. Nicholas Frank, for example, now serves as dean of Mississippi State’s College of Veterinary Medicine, while Jennifer Miller’s work at Elanco reflects the growing role of veterinarians in product strategy, prevention, and translational industry work. What to watch: Watch whether Purdue’s new Dean’s Dinner of Distinction becomes a recurring platform for alumni engagement, student mentorship, and broader visibility for nontraditional veterinary career paths. (vet.purdue.edu)
