Pet Valu marks 50 years with yearlong anniversary campaign

Pet Valu is marking its 50th anniversary in 2026 with a yearlong consumer campaign centered on promotions, brand spotlights, and locally curated “VIP boxes” for selected shoppers in May and June. The Canadian specialty retailer, which opened its first store in Toronto in 1976, said the celebration will run from April through December and highlight national pet product brands that have grown alongside the chain. Today, Pet Valu says it operates more than 800 locally owned and operated stores across Canada under banners including Pet Valu, Chico, Bosley’s by Pet Valu, Paulmac’s Pets, Total Pet, and Tisol. Why it matters: For veterinary professionals, the announcement is less about a birthday campaign than about the continued scale and staying power of a major Canadian pet retail channel. Pet Valu’s footprint, emphasis on in-store advice, and merchandising of nutrition, treats, and other everyday pet products mean its promotions can influence what pet parents see, ask about, and buy. The company is also entering its anniversary year after reporting fiscal 2025 revenue growth, 863 stores across its network, and plans to keep investing in convenience, value, and expertise amid more price-sensitive consumer behavior. What to watch: Watch how heavily Pet Valu ties its 50th-anniversary campaign to value messaging, proprietary brands, and Canadian-made assortments as competitive pressure in pet retail remains elevated. (petage.com)
