Instinct EMR puts workflow automation at the center of its pitch
Veterinary software company Instinct Science is making automation a centerpiece of its EMR pitch, framing the tools as a way to cut repetitive admin work and reduce “mental load” for hospital teams. In a recent company blog post and related webinar materials, Instinct highlighted workflow automations inside Instinct EMR that can handle recurring operational steps such as task creation, communication triggers, and connected billing workflows, alongside adjacent features like automatic charge capture, analytics dashboards, and a pet parent portal. The push comes a few months after Instinct formally launched Instinct EMR for Primary Care in December 2025, positioning the cloud-based platform for busy general practices as well as hybrid GP and urgent care settings. Why it matters: For veterinary professionals, this isn't just another software feature update. Administrative friction remains a real pain point across practice, and technology adoption is already widespread: AVMA’s 2025 economic report found 76.5% of represented practices had practice management software in place in 2024, 66.8% had EMR software, and 59.9% used client communication software integrated with PIMS. Instinct’s argument is that deeper automation inside the clinical workflow, not just standalone messaging or reporting tools, can help teams reduce clicks, limit missed handoffs, tighten charge capture, and free up staff time for patient care. Burrwood Veterinary’s Alex Schechter, DVM, said in Instinct materials that the platform’s status board acts as the “heartbeat of the hospital,” while fewer-step workflows matter because tasks repeated 20 times a day quickly add up. What to watch: Watch for whether Instinct turns these automation claims into broader product rollouts, measurable customer outcomes, or more explicit AI-enabled workflow tools for primary care teams. (instinct.vet)
