Instinct EMR pushes automations to ease veterinary admin load

Instinct Science is promoting a new Automations feature in Instinct EMR, positioning it as a way to cut repetitive administrative work for veterinary teams. In a March 17 blog post tied to a recent Instinct Academy webinar, the company said the feature lets practices set trigger-based workflows inside the EMR, such as sending pre-op instructions when a patient is marked “On the Way,” creating follow-up tasks after discharge, or generating reminders for sensitive client communication after euthanasia visits. Instinct says setup is no-code, and reported that in just over a month since launch, more than 50 practices were using the feature, with 24,000-plus automations run and more than 1,100 hours returned to patient care. Why it matters: For veterinary professionals, the pitch lands in a familiar pain point: too much of the day is spent on operational repeat work rather than medicine. That matters in a workforce environment already marked by overload and burnout, with AAVMC warning that veterinary teams are feeling overworked and overwhelmed amid ongoing staffing shortages. Instinct is also building a broader workflow story around its platform, including a pet parent portal to reduce phone and email record requests, standardized templates to reduce documentation friction, and automatic charge capture aimed at limiting missed revenue. What to watch: Watch for whether Instinct publishes independent customer outcomes, broader adoption figures, or deeper integrations as it expands its cloud-based EMR offering for general practice. (instinct.vet)
